for joining us. i'm carolyn tyler. dozens of police remain on guard at oakland city hall this hour after arresting nearly 300 occupy oakland demonstrators last night. tear gas and gas bang grenades mark the most turn plant clash with police since their encampment was torn down last november. there were last arrests at the downtown ymca. one band of roaming protesters also vandalized city hall. the damage inside is still being assessed this morning. sergio reports. >> city hall became one of the targets of demonstrators when a few people managed to force their way in and make a mess of the place. a visibly flustered jean quan voiced her frustration with the latest demonstration. >> the occupy oakland has got to stop using oakland as its playground and that people in the community and people in the occupy movement have to stop making excuses for this behavior. >> at the height of protestors during the day, demonstrators squared off at police. some tossed objects at officers and police responded with flash bangs and nobody grenades. as the day war on, several conflicts erupted, like this on

in the backseat of that car, their sleeping five-year-old daughter. alan wang picks up the story. >> carolyn, the five-year-old girl is asleep in her bed tonight, but less than a few hours ago she was a missing child. people in this neighborhood say they feel safe here, but maybe not after tonight. five-year-old salma, senior slept through the whole ordeal. her father, adolfo senior just returned from her appointment at 6:30. he parked the car in front of their home and helped to bring their three-year-old son in the house while his wife ran in to use the restroom leaving salma asleep in the carseat. >> my wife finished what she was doing and coming out to get my daughter, and the car was gone in less than two minutes. >> i ran frantically down the street. my first inclination is maybe the car rolled down the street. >> he says they called 9-1-1 and the police were there in less than four minutes and quickly combed the neighborhood. adolfo says he and his wife were frantic. >> she was crying and running around. she was crying and the neighbors came out. everybody was helpful. it was like the

. good morning, everyone. thanks nor joining us, i'm carolyn tyler. at least six occupy oakland protestors face charges this morning, including vandalism assaulting police officers and possessing explosives after an anti-police march last night. starting around 8:00 they marched from the plaza. they snaked through downtown. they claim they have been harassed at occupy oakland events in recent weeks. some marchers broke patrol windows, vandalized news advance and someone also lit a fire near 8th and washington street. they uncovered an explosive equal to a quarter stick of dynamite. some occupy oakland protestors are condemning the actions of others saying the majority do not condone that violence. and occupy san jose they will march today from city hall to the santa clara county courthouse starting at noon. this event coincides with the court case held 126 years ago known as santa clara county versus southern pacific railroad. this 1886 case stemmed from the railroad's refusal to pay taxes. it was a dispute over ch

in for carolyn tyler. san francisco police say they are still investigating a case of a stolen monkey that was returned to the zoo yesterday. here's a picture of banana sam safe in his keeper's arms. the 17-year-old squirrel monkey was taken by the zoo thursday night. zoo officials say someone cut through the gate, climbed through the roof of the primate exhibit building and broke into the squirrel monkey habitat. a man called police yesterday and said he found the monkey in stern grove two miles from the zoo. he said he coaxed the monkey into his backpack. he said banana sam seems okay but they doubt that recovery story. >> he looks pretty good. thirsty, hungry, trembling a little bit but we did an exam and he did pretty good. knowledge. >> is it easy to coax a monkey into a backpack? >> i would say not. a monkey would be place into a backpack forcefully. >> the investigation remains open. so far the man hasn't tried to claim the $5,000 reward. he won't be on business play for a while. keepers want to make sure he's okay and repair the damage to his habitat. >>> there is throwing con

it for february 24th one month from tomorrow. but tonight a new accuser has come forward. carolyn tyler has the story. >>reporter: this morning the sheriff was granted a speedy trial. this afternoon annex girlfriend came forward telling us she is willing to testify against him. the woman whom we are not identifying described the sheriff as a pit bull and bully during her year long relationship with him that began in 2007. woman filed a police report yesterday and tells abc 7 that in one incident he pushed me up against a wall. grabbing my arm and yelling. he caused a bruise that he apologized for. according to court documents the wife lopez accused him of bruising her arm occurring a new years eve confrontation. the shave has pled not guilty to 3 misdemeanor charges. and he has support. >> they are trying to take down a good man who stands for the city and fought for the city passionately. >>reporter: his attorney says this is one of the most over blown cases he has ever seen. >> if in times of the investigation the publicity, the amount of evidence. >>reporter: attorney wagner tol

. >>> the cable carolyn is back in service -- cable car line is back in service. a problem with the cable forced the line to close down for a few hours. it was fixed just before 9:00 last night. >>> time now 5:08 traffic problems, rain pouring in, sal, what is happening now? >> it is not going to be a great monday so if you leave the house early, it is like asking a lot on a monday to get yourself out the door. but you should this morning if you can or just call ahead and tell them you are running behind taking you longer to get to work. as you drive out to the mcarthur maze, that traffic will be busy and you have heard your reporter saying, almost everywhere you look, some of the pavement has not been. it gets a little bit damp in the rain and this morning's commute is going to be okay on westbound bay bridge so far coming across to san francisco. we have had a lot of fender- benders, 280 southbound looking good and some of the fender benders include standing water, minor accidents on the shoulder, that kind of thing and to give yourself plenty of extra time to get through. let's go to steve.
